One of our long-standing junior players, Josh Stivala was selected to play in the Rugby Victoria U13s Boys Regional Tournament last month. The tournament comprised four teams, made up of players from club and college teams in four zones across the greater Melbourne area. Each team had a first nations name reflecting themes of their zone, and Josh was selected into the Treang team (meaning East/Tree).
After 6 intensive training sessions with his new teammates, Josh, at No.5 had the honour of being a starting lock on the team. The competition, on 14 September at Northern Rugby Club, was a three game round-robin and Treang came in a strong second overall. As one of the youngest players on the team, Josh found the experience hugely rewarding and a fantastic opportunity to take his skills and training techniques to the next level. When asked what he most enjoyed about the competition, Josh says “it was a great experience, meeting new people, learning new plays and being lifted up in the lineouts”.
