đź’› Volunteer Spotlight: Victor Murray

This week’s Volunteer Spotlight shines on someone who truly embodies what it means to be part of the Eltham Rugby family — Victor Murray, long-time Team Manager, committee member, and all-round club legend.

Victor first joined the club eight years ago when his twin boys, Trent and Travis, were desperate to start tackling and playing hard.

“Our local club, Eltham, has been like a second home for us over the years. We love the sense of belonging there so much that we jumped at the chance to give back and support our club and community through volunteering.”

He’s the kind of volunteer who thrives in the heart of the action — right on the sideline, helping the team run smoothly, and sharing in every triumph and challenge.

“Volunteering in rugby is an exciting way to be at the heart of all the action… You connect with the team, feel the thrill of each moment, and watch every player grow and improve.”

Game days for Victor start early. From Friday team chats to Saturday line-ups, he’s there making sure everything goes to plan:

“There’s always that nervous energy during warmups and the referee’s briefing before the first whistle. Then it’s a whirlwind of adrenaline-pumping action — before you know it, the game’s over, and everyone’s already excited to do it all again next week!”

Victor’s proudest moments include helping guide the team to two Grand Finals and a Rugby 7s Tournament win — but he’s just as proud of the friendships and memories built along the way.

“It’s been a rewarding ride full of teamwork, passion, and plenty of unforgettable memories that my photo library keeps reminding me of!”

Off the field, Victor works as a project manager in the mining industry, travelling to some pretty remote places, but says his favourite place is still home with his family. He’s quick to credit them for his motivation:

“I’m truly inspired by every club volunteer who digs deep and gives their time to make sure all our players get to enjoy the great game of Rugby. But most of all, my biggest inspiration comes from my life-long partner and best friend, Natalie — her support means the world to me.”

His advice for anyone thinking about getting involved?

“Just do it! Whether you can help a little or a lot, every bit makes a huge difference. You’d be surprised how rewarding it feels to be part of the team behind the team.”

Thank you, Victor — for the countless hours, the sideline passion, and the bag juggling! You make Eltham Rugby stronger every single week. 💛🖤
