🙌 Volunteer Spotlight – Max Taylor Delai

This week’s spotlight is on one of our newest, yet already most committed volunteers – Max Taylor Delai. A recent arrival from Fiji, Max joined the Senior Men’s team in February after moving to Melbourne to study his Master’s degree at La Trobe University. He quickly became part of the Eltham Rugby family – both on the field and behind the scenes, where he now manages much of our social media content.

What brought you to Eltham Rugby?
“I ran into Tevita Wainiqolo while shopping at Uni Hill Bundoora. He invited me to come along and from that moment, I was hooked. Joining the Senior Men’s team gave me a community right away.”

What made you want to volunteer?
“I noticed the club wasn’t putting out as much social media content as other teams. I asked around, and eventually Roger encouraged me to get involved. Now I help post team lists, set up cameras on game days, share results and photos, and even upload game films to YouTube. It’s been a great way to give back.”

What do you enjoy most about volunteering at the club?
“The people for sure. I’ve met so many members – from juniors and seniors to parents and supporters. Eltham Rugby has a great community. Every week I get a chance to help make someone’s day better – and if I’m lucky, maybe give my coach a headache too!”

What’s been your proudest moment so far?
“Winning the Grand Final with the Senior Men’s team. Being part of a side that has come back so strongly after a few years out of the competition is something truly special.”

What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?
“I’m an Officer in the Republic of Fiji Military Force. Outside of rugby, I love working out, singing, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. Game day isn’t complete without a good breakfast, a Vanilla Latte or Flat White, and a FaceTime call with my fiancée or family back home.”

Who inspires you?
“My family back at home and my fiancée – they inspire me every day to be the best version of myself, not just for me but for those around me.”

If you could recruit one famous person to volunteer at the club, who would it be?
“Jesus – why not?”

What advice would you give someone thinking about volunteering?
“Go for it! It’s not always easy and sometimes it can be overwhelming, but it’s a great way to connect with your community and be part of something greater than yourself. Eltham is a very welcoming club.”

Max closed his interview with a heartfelt message to the club community:
“THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO AND FOR YOUR ENDLESS SUPPORT!”

Well, Max, the club community says right back at you – thank you for your energy, creativity, and commitment both on and off the field. We’re very lucky to have you at Eltham Rugby. 💛🖤
