Despite the school holidays, the club has remained a hive of activity. Many of our junior teams continued training in between well-earned breaks, with whispers that the U12s were even spotted hitting the gym to get finals ready.
On the weekend, Eltham Rugby hosted both Get Into Rugby and the U11s, creating a buzzing atmosphere at Bridge Street. The BBQ was running, the crowd was lively, and the sense of community was on full display. The club fire has been lit most training nights too, giving off some much-needed warmth and providing a cosy base for post-training chats and planning sessions.
With the Lions in Melbourne this week, many of our members are heading to the matches to soak up the action, and some of our Get Into Rugby kids will even take part in pre-game activities. Watch this space. Rumour has it, it’s getting competitive in some houses, and some of our juniors have the luxury of switching sides depending on who is winning based on their parents’ backgrounds.
The seniors and U12s both have a bye this weekend (28th July), giving everyone the chance to fully enjoy the Wallabies v Lions match in Melbourne. Meanwhile, the U11s will be away against Box Hill and the U16s will take on Brimbank.
We’ve also had two photo shoots at the club in recent weeks. One for our Nillumbik redevelopment announcement and another as part of a Rugby Victoria and Bendigo Bank partnership. Big thanks to the players who jumped in and showed off their modelling skills. We reckon you’ve all earned your sideline glamour shots!
There is a lot of action happening in the background and we are going to have a lot of action in the lead-up to finals and post finals. We have been working with Concord through the Change Our Game grant to deliver an inclusive rugby tournament and have been working on including a holiday camp for the September break.
The committee have also been reviewing our policies and have drafted a Communication Plan and Volunteer Strategy, and we’re actively looking for more helping hands across all levels of the club. If you know someone who might be interested in stepping up, now’s the time to tap them on the shoulder!
If you’ve snapped any great moments from around the club lately, whether it’s training, matches, or just good vibes, send them through for next week’s edition.
