Eltham Rugby will mark International Women’s Day next Thursday with a special club event celebrating the women and girls who contribute so much to our rugby community.
The event sits within Rugby Australia’s Women and Girls in Rugby Week (28 February – 8 March), which celebrates the many roles women play in the game, from players and coaches to referees, volunteers and leaders.
On Wednesday 4 March, Alicia Loughlin (Club Secretary) and Sylvia Metcalfe (Treasurer) attended the Rugby Victoria Women and Girls in Rugby networking event, where clubs and leaders from across the state came together to support the continued growth of women’s rugby.
We are delighted that two prominent figures in the women’s game have agreed to join us at Eltham next week:
Melanie Kawa
Former captain of the Melbourne Rebels Super W team and the Papua New Guinea Palais Women’s Sevens team, and currently a Director on the Rugby Victoria Board.
Alana Thomas
Former Australian Wallaroo (#88) and NSW Waratahs Hall of Fame inductee with more than 20 years of international experience. Alana has coached the Australian A team, led the Melbourne Rebels Super W, and most recently served as Women’s High Performance Manager at Fiji Rugby Union.
Having leaders of this calibre attend our event is a fantastic opportunity to hear about the growth and future of women’s rugby.
Everyone in the Eltham community is welcome to attend. Whether you are a player, parent, volunteer, supporter, or simply interested in rugby, we would love to see you there.
Please help spread the word and invite friends, partners and family members to come along as we celebrate women and girls in rugby at Eltham.
We have high aspirations for women’s and girls’ rugby at Eltham and are committed to making our club a place where everyone feels welcome and included.
