Our club was buzzing with activity on Wednesday 1 October, where we held our first one day holiday camp, facilitated by Sports Star Academy. Running from 9am-3pm, the field was packed with around 30 boys and girls (aged between 5-13) from all over Melbourne (and even Geelong!) making new friends, learning skills and drills and having an all-out fun time. The clubhouse was pumping with tunes, canteen delights and snags and burgers on the BBQ. The weather was dry and breezy, the energy was amazing and there were lots of happy-tired kiddos leaving the field asking if they could do it again next school holidays. An all round success, keep an eye out for future school holiday clinics over the next 12 months.
This was the first time Eltham has partnered with Sports Star Academy and we want to acknowledge and thank Chris Slade for his guidance and coordination of the event. A huge thank you also to “Chef Leigh” who worked his magic on the BBQ and Alana and Izy for coordinating the day, manning the canteen and being “mums on site” as needed to all the kids. A heartfelt thank you also to the other local rugby clubs who supported us by advertising this event on their social media including Northern, Kiwi Hawthorn and Maroondah rugby clubs. In such a small sporting community this inter-club support is invaluable.
