A blustery day at the ground set the tone for what would be a tightly contested battle between Eltham/Brimbank and Geelong, with the wind playing as much of a role as any player on the park.
The first half was an arm wrestle. Both sides were content to grind, and the contest was as physical as it was tactical. A penalty attempt just before the break struck the upright — tantalisingly close — but our chasers were on it in a flash, regathering and driving hard for the line. Geelong defended brilliantly and held firm. At the break, Eltham/Brimbank led 7–5.
With the wind easing in the second half, our boys found their rhythm. A couple of well-executed tries extended the lead and had the sideline buzzing. At 19–17 with five minutes to go, momentum was ours — until a serious injury to a Geelong player brought play to a halt for several minutes. Moments like those remind us that rugby is a game played by people who give everything, on both sides of the field. We wish that player a full and speedy recovery.
From the restart, Geelong threw everything at us. They found gaps, closed the margin, and made our boys earn every metre in defence. But earn it they did. Eltham/Brimbank held the line with real resilience and saw out the final whistle.
Final score: Eltham/Brimbank 19 – Geelong 17. We’ll take that win! 💛🖤
Kuzina Player of the Match: Sione Finau — a well-deserved recognition for a standout performance.
Well done to the whole squad and to the coaches for another hard-fought result. Go Eltham!
