πŸ† U16s Grand Final – Warriors Fight with Heart

Grand Final day arrived cool and fresh, before the sun broke through to create perfect conditions for a great running rugby showpiece in the U16A Grand Final.

The build-up was anything but ordinary. With a limited warm-up area, our forwards were deep in a pre-game chat with the ref while the rest of us were busy fending off bull ants πŸ˜†. The backline had to make do with a short warm-up space on a slight hill and ankle-deep grass – more weeds than turf! 😁

The game itself began with a slow start from our boys, with nerves showing as small errors crept in. Unfortunately, those mistakes continued throughout the match, and our opposition capitalised, turning them into points.

Defence, however, was strong in patches and kept us well in the contest right up until the final five minutes. In attack, our structure wasn’t always consistent, and this proved to be our main downfall.

Still, every single player gave it their all – playing with heart, for each other, and for the amazing supporters who turned out to cheer them on. In the end, we just fell short of bringing home the championship trophy.

After the final whistle, all players and coaching staff were honoured with a candy lei – a cultural identity that represents hard work, love and respect.

Coaches Russ and Nate couldn’t have been prouder of the team: the hard work put in throughout the season, the growth shown on and off the field, and the way the lads came together as a group of brothers.

An awesome effort from the Eltham/Melton Warriors – what a journey, what a team! πŸ’›πŸ–€β€οΈ
