🌟 Volunteer Spotlight – This Week: Roger Iacobucci

This week we’re celebrating our seniors as they head into the Grand Final by shining a light on the man who helps keep it all running – our Seniors Coordinator, Roger Iacobucci.

Roger has been part of Eltham Rugby Club since 2010, giving an incredible 16 years of service to the black and gold. His journey started when one of his employees played seniors at the club and he stepped in to help – and he’s been a cornerstone of the senior program ever since.

What Roger loves about volunteering

It’s the friendly atmosphere that keeps him coming back week after week, along with the friendships and sense of community that make Eltham so special.

Highlights over the years

Roger’s most memorable season was 2014, when the seniors went through undefeated and took out the premiership. He’s proud of the role he’s played in helping senior teams develop, as well as sharing a taste of his Italian heritage with the club.

Behind the scenes

On a typical game day, Roger is busy coordinating 53 senior players, supporting committee duties, and ensuring training and match preparation runs smoothly. All this from someone who admits he knew “nothing about rugby before 40” – though some at the club might cheekily say that hasn’t changed!

Off the field

Roger works as an Arborist, and outside rugby he enjoys keeping fit, coaching other sports, and spending time with family and friends. He’s also a Collingwood and Melbourne Storm supporter.

Words of wisdom

Roger says he doesn’t believe in luck – only in working hard and creating opportunities – and he encourages others to give volunteering a go:

“Helping the local community is great, but making lifelong friendships at Eltham is priceless. Volunteers are hard to find – many hands make light work.”
