In very sad news, we learned of the passing last month of Terry Hurdle, father of Russ Hurdle and grandfather of Ben, at the age of 84 in his hometown of Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. Known locally as Mr. Rugby, his remarkable contribution to community sport in the Bay of Plenty area was commemorated with a major article on the front page of The Bay of Plenty Times. While his sporting interests encompassed cricket, squash and tennis, it was rugby that was his true passion. A member of the Mount Maunganui Sports Club (formerly Mount Rugby Squash Club) for more than 50 years, his roles included player, manager, committee and board member, life member and patron, passionate supporter of the Bay of Plenty Steamers (and occasional visitor to Eltham RUFC!). His legacy and love of rugby lives on at Eltham through Russ, Cath and Ben. On behalf of the club, I extend our condolences to the Hurdle family.
