Every Girl Belongs on This Field

Something exciting is happening at Bridge Street on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Girls are turning up, trying rugby, having a brilliant time — and coming back.

Over recent weeks our women’s and girls’ training nights have been drawing more and more participants — young women and girls who might never have considered rugby before, lacing up their boots and giving it a go. None of it happens by accident.

Nick Bursey has been running sessions twice a week with real dedication, creating an environment that is welcoming, fun, and well-coached. We are incredibly grateful for everything he puts in. Alana Su’a has been out in the community spreading the word and making sure local girls know that Eltham Rugby is a place for them — her enthusiasm has been a huge part of getting players through the gate. And behind the scenes, our Treasurer Sylvia Metcalfe has been passionately pursuing grant funding and working to make the club as welcoming as possible for girls and women. Sylvia is also planning something special — a big day here at Eltham for our girls. Watch this space. 👀

Our goal is clear: a women’s team, and junior girls’ teams that can compete and thrive. We are in the early stages of building something great, and that is exactly the right time to get involved.

Do you love rugby? Do you want to share that love with the special girls and women in your life? Whether it is spreading the word, supporting training sessions, or contributing in some other thoughtful way — bring it. Get in touch at [email protected] and let’s build this together.

Training is Tuesdays and Thursdays at 58 Bridge Street, Eltham. Come down and see what we are building. 🖤💛
