MATCH REPORT | U18s | Round 2 | Eltham/Brimbank v Harlequins — 7–26

It wasn’t the result we wanted, but there’s a lot to build on from Saturday’s clash against Harlequins.

The first half was a tough start — we found ourselves 14–0 down inside the opening ten minutes, with some missed first-up tackles handing Harlequins easy territory and momentum. The boys steadied as the half wore on and came close to pulling one back before the break, only to be denied by some determined Harlequins defence. We also ran the ball one off the ruck a little too often and were slow arriving at the breakdown, which took the edge off our attack. Their dominance at set piece — both scrum and lineout — gave them a platform we couldn’t quite match.

The second half told a different story. The boys came out with better intent on both sides of the ball, and the scoreboard agreed — Eltham won the second half 7–5. Two tries went begging when we lost the ball forward at critical moments (we’ve all been there!), but the effort, attitude and execution were noticeably sharper. The final score didn’t reflect how well we played those last 40 minutes.

The focus going forward: start better, sharpen execution, and nail the 1% that makes the difference.

Player of the Day: Luan De Winnaar 🌟 — well deserved.

And one more very important thing — a huge Happy Birthday to Coach Russ Hurdle 🎂🎉 We’re lucky to have you leading this group, Russ. Hope you had a great day! 💛🖤
