A classic game of two halves — and plenty to be proud of despite the result.
Eltham/Northern/Shepparton’s combined U14s went down 24–12 to Powerhouse on Saturday, in a contest far closer than the final margin suggests.
The players started full of energy and intent, their direct, powerful running putting Powerhouse under immediate pressure and forcing several handling errors. They capitalised on those opportunities and deservedly held the lead for a good portion of the first half.
As expected, Powerhouse responded after the break. Their forward pack took control, building the momentum that eventually proved decisive.
There were plenty of standout performances from the combined side. Jonny provided sharp, lively service from the set pieces, while Josh enjoyed a highly competitive battle with his opposite number all match. Blake produced several storming runs from midfield, and Chayton was everywhere, a constant nuisance to the Powerhouse defence. A special mention goes to Eli, who made his first start in the unfamiliar position of fullback and handled the challenge admirably.
Although the result didn’t go their way, the Eltham/Northern/Shepparton players showed plenty of character, commitment and promise. Well done to all involved. 🖤💛
