There’s something happening at Eltham Rugby that goes well beyond the scoreboard — and the Get Into Rugby programme is right at the heart of it.
As Barry, one of our GIR regulars, put it so well: Get Into Rugby is inspiring the next generation of kids to climb the ranks in the club and represent their club colours in the not so distant future. It’s an absolute pleasure to watch these kids’ skills, talents, and friendships grow.
From a club’s point of view, we feel honoured to be given the chance to help our own kids — and kids from other clubs — grow. Get Into Rugby brings clubs together and builds friendships on and off the field, as the kids, coaches, and parents all get to know each other.
The GIR coaches bring great enthusiasm and give so much time to these kids. Their training methods and patience also help guide clubs in their own in-house training. And it’s been amazing to see the numbers grow from last year — which can only mean one thing: they are doing it right, and the kids are enjoying it.
Saturday’s Gala Day was the perfect proof of that. The GIR kids were on the field first — throwing themselves into the mud with total joy, celebrating every try like a Grand Final winner, and reminding everyone watching exactly why rugby is worth it.
