The Eltham U12s travelled to Melbourne Rugby Club on Saturday for a Round 4 clash against the combined Kiwi Hawthorn / Maroondah / Melbourne side, coming away with a brilliant 38–24 road win in a match full of fighting spirit, good hands, and excellent defensive work.
The home side opened the scoring with a sharp run down the wing from the kick-off, but Eltham responded immediately. Max was quickest to react after the restart, finishing a fast break to level things up and set the tone for what was to come.
From set-piece ball, the backs put together some crisp combination play — Max added two more tries as the backline found their rhythm, and Louis finished beautifully in the corner after the ball was moved swiftly through the hands. Eltham’s defence through the middle of the game was equally impressive, with Fraser, Artie, and Josh putting in powerful counter-rucking work that repeatedly turned the home side over. Harvey and Orin also made their presence felt with some outstanding try-saving tackles, keeping Eltham in control for long periods.
The home side did manage to pull a few tries back — including another quick-strike effort from the kick-off down the wing — but Eltham refused to be rattled. Roman led the pack with strong, physical forward play that earned the visitors a series of penalties, and quick tap-and-go work from Harvey gave Max the space to complete a remarkable five-try haul for the match.
A superb performance from this young group, and a well-deserved win on the road. Congratulations to Fraser, who was named Player of the Match, and to Max on a brilliant individual display — five tries in one game is some effort! Well done to all involved. Go Eltham! 🖤💛
