Eltham/Brimbank 65–7 v Wyndham (recorded 57–7 under the Rugby Victoria mercy ruling)
Once again a beautiful sunny winter’s day for rugby.
Wyndham won the toss and chose to kick off. We dropped the ball from the kick off, they had an attacking scrum, and inside two minutes we were 7–0 down. We kicked off with the mindset that this was now the start of the game — and from there we held possession well and attacked and attacked, while their defence held strong. We finally crossed the line in quick succession and finished the first half with a penalty to lead 17–7.
Into the second half, the message was better shape and structure in attack — let the ball do the work and believe in our processes. We started strongly with a try straight away, then another, and our momentum, support play and attacking shape using the width and the ball was superb. We ended up with an impressive performance and a win over Wyndham, 65–7. Under the Rugby Victoria mercy ruling a win cannot be recorded by more than 50 points, so the final score is recorded at 57–7.
Two more rounds to go in the home and away season, and we have locked in 4th spot for the finals. If we pick up bonus points and results go our way elsewhere, we may yet creep into 3rd.
