Senior Men’s | Round 1 | Eltham Rugby 64 – Melbourne Chargers 24

What a way to start the season. πŸ’›πŸ–€

Under sunny skies at home, the Senior Men’s put in a gutsy, commanding performance in Round 1 to open the defence of their Conference Competition title with a 64–24 win over Melbourne Chargers. It was the kind of start that sets a tone β€” and this team set it early.

It wasn’t without its challenges. Eltham took to the field under-manned with only one player on the bench, and brought in two last-minute recruits in Sean Richards and Brodie Rigby to make up the numbers. The fact that it never showed in the result speaks volumes about the squad’s stamina and spirit.

It was also a debut of sorts for new coaches Arron Dalgarno and Theo Trollip β€” and they’ll take the win gladly.

From the first whistle, Eltham controlled the game. Strong carries, quick hands, and disciplined defence made it clear the boys had come ready to play. Tries were spread right across the team β€” Samuela Rokoraivoka (2), Aidan Smith, Aisea Naulago, Riley Strachan, Dimitri Vourvahakis, Sean Richards, Joe Thompson (2) β€” with 6 conversions from the boot of Dimitri and one from Joe.

Man of the match was Aidan Smith, who repeatedly carved up the opposition in an outstanding attacking performance.

A special mention to Roger, who dusted off the boots and reminded everyone exactly what he’s capable of. Welcome back, Rog β€” don’t leave it so long next time.

And the moment of the day? Young Harvey Su’a from the U12s stepped up as linesman and did a brilliant job. It’s exactly this kind of cross-programme connection that makes Eltham Rugby what it is β€” juniors involved, visible, and part of the whole club. Proud of you, Harvey.

One game down. The standard has been set. πŸ’›β€οΈπŸ–€
