This week’s spotlight is on one of our most dedicated and quietly legendary volunteers – Oliver Loughlin.
Ollie is a coach for both Get Into Rugby and the Under 11s, and if he’s not running a drill, he’s usually cheering on his two sons from the sidelines or helping out wherever he’s needed. Married to our club secretary Alicia, the whole Loughlin family is deeply embedded in the fabric of Eltham Rugby.
We asked Ollie a few questions about his experience at the club:
What do you love most about coaching?
“I love seeing the GIR kids get so excited when they complete one of their favourite drills or master a skill they hadn’t been able to do before. And with the U11s, I enjoy introducing new skills and then seeing them put it into action during a game.”
What does being part of the club mean to your family?
“I love being down at the club with my family – especially making new friends and getting to know other families. It’s just a pity I can’t get down more often!”
What advice would you give to someone thinking about volunteering?
“Just do it. Don’t wait. Every little bit helps – from holding a tackle bag to collecting the pizza.”
Favourite rugby player?
“Carlos Spencer – the Kiwi fly-half. He had so much skill and was amazing to watch.”
Thanks, Ollie – for your time, your energy, and your love of the game. We’re lucky to have you at Eltham Rugby.
